On October 12th, ATM Group proudly marked a major step in advancing Milan’s mobility with the opening of the entire M4 metro line. This state-of-the-art, automated metro has 21 stations over 15 kilometres, providing fast East-West connectivity in Milan and direct access from Linate Airport to the city centre in just 12 minutes.
With 47 trains running at 90-second headway, the M4 is designed to serve up to 150,000 passengers daily.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Italy’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of the Hellenic Republic Christos Staikouras, and the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala.
“This achievement reflects the Group’s commitment to enhancing public transport, which is a vital asset for our communities and plays a key role in reducing emissions and protecting the environment. By improving the city’s metro network, the Group not only promotes sustainability but also empowers communities, helping to foster social inclusion and improve the quality of life for residents through more efficient and accessible mobility.” stated ATM Group Chairperson, Gioia Ghezzi.
“The opening of the M4 line in Milan confirms ATM Group as European leader in managing automated metro networks.” said Arrigo Giana, CEO of ATM Group. “This year is particularly significant for the Group. In June, we celebrated the extension of the M4 metro line in Copenhagen and by the end of November, we will mark the opening of Greece’s first fully automated metro system in Thessaloniki, set to serve over one million residents”.
