The Launch of the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail operated by ATM Group

the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail

The opening of the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail marks a new stage for green mobility, providing Denmark’s Capital Region with a strategic infrastructure to connect the western districts and reshape daily travel for millions of passengers.

The inauguration of the southern section, featuring 12 stations, marks the first phase of a project that will span 28 kilometers and connect 29 stations across the capital region. When the northern part of the light rail opens in 2026, six stations are directly connected to the S-train network, enhancing regional connectivity. By 2030, the line is expected to serve around 14 million passengers annually. Already on the first day of operation 15,000 passengers travelled the light rail.

The CEO of ATM Group, Alberto Zorzan, joined the inauguration alongside other Group executives, highlighting the strong collaboration with Metro Service, the Group’s subsidiary which operates both the new line and the entire 24/7 automated metro network of the Danish capital.

The light rail project showcases how shared expertise at local and international level continues to shape cutting-edge transport systems in the cities where the Group operates.
